F2, F3, F4: choosing the right apartment size

In Algeria an apartment is named by its number of main rooms. An F2 has one bedroom and a living room, an F3 has two bedrooms, an F4 has three and an F5 has four. The kitchen and bathroom are not counted.

A single person or a couple usually does well with an F2 or an F3. Families with children often start at an F4, and an F3 can work if one room doubles as an office.

Compare the area in square metres, not only the letter. Two F3 flats can differ by 20 m², so check the size before you compare prices.

Ask about the floor, the lift and the orientation. A bright, quiet F3 can be a better home than a larger flat on a noisy street.
